Obituary of David Alan Joyce
David Alan Joyce, 64, Riverton, passed away peacefully at home, in the arms of his wife, on Monday, August 21, 2023, after a brief battle with cancer.
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Mary Georgina “Alice” Joyce. Alan had been employed in construction with several companies, most notably, Eddy Brooks. He, in his own words “acquired things”, unique and unusual items, that he enjoyed collecting and selling. Alan possessed a “heart of gold” and once his respect was earned, would “give the shirt off his back”. He enjoyed helping others, spoke honestly and was an all-a-round, “good guy”. Alan will be best remembered for having a “tough exterior” which concealed his “soft interior”.
Surviving are his wife, Joanne E. (Burge); step-son, “the boy” Jacob; step-daughter, Shelby (Ryan); stepfather, John, New Glasgow; daughters, Kim, Westville; Barbara Jean, Alberton, P.E.I.; Stephanie, New Glasgow and Marie (Brian), Westville; son, Mark, Alberton; 20 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; sisters, Patricia “Tissie”, Central West River; Connie (Timmy), French River; Debbie (Mike), New Glasgow; Corrina, New Glasgow and Susan, Stellarton; brother, Edward “Ed” (Irene), Loch Broom; aunt, Linda, New Glasgow; uncles, Joey, Durham and Donald, Loch Broom; numerous nieces and nephews; many cousins.
Besides his mother, he was predeceased by his daughter, Nicole “Nikki”.
The family will receive visitors 6-8 p.m. Thursday, August 24 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow with words of comfort at 7:45 p.m.
Donations may be made in Alan’s memory to Pictou County Palliative Care Society.
