Obituary of Joe Wilkinson

John Joseph “Joe” Wilkinson, 81, Valley View Villa, Riverton, formerly of Broadway and Ontario, passed away Wednesday, August 30, 2023, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.

Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Augustine "Gus" and Matilda Ann (MacDonald) Wilkinson. Joe was raised in Broadway. In his late teens he moved to Ontario where he pursued his love of truck driving, operating as an independent trucker for many years. He also enjoyed operating heavy equipment and would do so from time to time.  Following retirement, he moved back home where he enjoyed the company of his friends and being home.

Surviving are his sisters, Catherine “Kitty” (Cyril) O’Leary, Fairhaven, Mass; Frances MacLean, Calgary, Alta.; brother, Bernard Wilkinson, Toronto, Ont.; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Ronald and Robert “Bobby” Wilkinson; brother-in-law, Joseph MacLean.

A graveside service will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, September 7 in St. Andrew’s Cemetery, Egerton with Father Colin F. MacKinnon presiding.

His siblings wish to thank Joe’s good friends, Josie Butler, Henry Gosbee, Eddy Rhyno and cousin, Louise for always being there for him and to the Pictou County VON Homecare team and the Valley View Villa Staff for the excellent care he received.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joe’s memory to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
