Obituary of Linda Ann Durrah

We, the family of the late Linda Ann (McKenna) Durrah are sad to announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, wife and friend on Thursday, September 7, 2023, with her loving husband, Francis “Frank” by her side. Mom fought a lengthy battle with Dementia, but never lost her beautiful smile.

Linda Ann Durrah, 75, New Glasgow was born on January 9, 1948, to the late Frank and Kathleen (MacDonald) McKenna and raised, until the age of nine, in Grand Narrows, Cape Breton.

Nanny Durrah was famous for her baked goods especially her homemade rolls!  On the hottest day in the summer, you could find Mom kneading bread at her kitchen table with the tunes on the radio – one of her favourites was “Achy Breaky Heart”.  She was always smiling!  Mom loved a good game of cards with family and friends, Bingo, playing darts and hitting the dance floor with Frank at the Legion.

Mom is survived by her devoted husband Frank, New Glasgow; children, Eileen (Mike) Isaacs, Edmonton, Alta.; Vanessa (Kevin) MacLean, Thorburn; Adam (Roanna) Conway Bethune, Sask.; grandchildren, Will (Lindsay), Shelbie (Justin), Brennen (Becky), Taylor (Conway), Cameron (Marley); great grandchildren, Charlie, Timothy, Everett and Rory; sisters, Mary Boulter, Oromocto, N.B.; Ramona (Alan) Boehk, Barrie, Ont.; brothers, Hugh (Maxine) McKenna, Summerside, P.E.I.; Frank (Joanne) McKenna, Mount Forest, Ont.;  Bill (Linda) McKenna and John (Grace) McKenna, Brampton, Ont.; sister-in-law, Paulette McKenna,  Guelph, Ont.;  many nieces and nephews, and all of the children that she cared for over the years – as they too were her family.

Besides her parents, Mom was predeceased by her sister Josephine McKenna; brother, Duncan; stepmother, Marjorie; brother-in-law, Lorne Boulter.

Mom was a resident at Glen Haven Manor for many years.  Throughout her illness and up to her final goodbye, Mom was treated with respect, dignity, and love.  Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Donations may be made in Linda’s memory to Glen Haven Manor Recreation Fund.   Arrangements are entrusted to P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow.

In honour of Linda’s wishes her family will celebrate her life privately.

“We love you Mom,”

Frank, Eileen, Vanessa, and Adam
