Obituary of Arnold Chisholm
Daniel Arnold Chisholm, 93, Valley View Villa, Riverton, formerly of Linacy, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family in the Villa.
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Daniel Campbell and Mabel Janet (MacKay) Chisholm. He was raised in Moose River and worked as a carpenter, beginning his career with Fraser, Mason & Fraser and then with J. Gordon MacCara Construction and prior to retirement was self-employed.
Arnold was a longstanding volunteer firefighter at the Linacy Firehall and an elder at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow. He spent his retirement working on his family farm in Moose River growing blueberries and enjoyed many summers with his family at their cottage in Black Point. Arnold will be remembered as a hard-working, quiet man.
Surviving are his loving wife, Mary Dorothy “Dot” (Fraser) Chisholm; daughters, Joyce Chisholm, Linacy; Donna (Bryce) Thompson, Woodburn; grandsons, Blair Thompson, Halifax; Andrew (Adrienne) Thompson, Little Harbour; Stuart Thompson, Halifax; great-grandson, Carter Thompson, Little Harbour; sister, Catherine MacCulloch, Oakville, Ont; brother-in-law, Calvin (Mary) Fraser, Garden of Eden; numerous nephews and nieces.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters Viola (Allison) Fraser, Anna (Clyde) Cameron and brother, Wilber (Anna) Chisholm; brother-in-law, Bill MacCulloch.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 p.m. Friday, October 6 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, October 7 in St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow with Rev. Dr. Joon Ki Kim officiating. Interment will be in Moose River Cemetery, Moose River.
For the last months of his life, Arnold was a resident of Valley View Villa, and his family would like to thank the staff for their love, care and attention, from the bottom of their hearts.
