Obituary of Carol Ann Fraser

Carol Ann Fraser, 79, Shiretown Nursing Home, Pictou, formerly of New Glasgow and Merigomish passed away peacefully, Friday, October 6, 2023.

Born on November 27, 1943, in Wolfville, Nova Scotia she was a daughter of the late Alfred O. and Blanche R. (Pursel) Kidston.  Carol graduated from the former Aberdeen School of Nursing in 1966 and worked as a registered nurse at the former Grace Maternity Hospital, Halifax and at the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.

Over the years she contributed to many organizations: United Church Women, Kinette Club, 2nd Merigomish Girl Guides, Y’s Menettes, Shepherd’s Lunch Room, Pictou County Artist’s Association and Pictou Yacht Club.

Carol enjoyed the outdoors; gardening, sailing, walking with friends, cross country skiing and skating, were among her favorite activities.  Two of her greatest passions were artistry and a love for painting.  She enjoyed many summers sailing on the family sailboats, “Whisper and Deliverance”, having made many trips to the Magdeline Islands, Prince Edward Island, Pictou Island and Bras d’Or Lakes.  Carol possessed a quiet charm and enduring love for her family. 

Surviving are her daughter, Shelley (Chris) Strickland, Little Harbour; son, Jeffrey (Shannon) Fraser, Merigomish; granddaughters, Ashleigh Strickland (Cody) and Bryden Strickland, Little Harbour; sister, Dorothy “Dot” Watt, Victoria, B.C.; nephews, Chris and Sean Watt.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her children’s father, Allan Fraser; brother-in-law, Jim Watt.

The family will receive visitors 2-4 p.m. Thursday, October 12 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow.  A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, October 23 in Lakeview Cemetery, Centreville with Rev. Jeanne Stright officiating.
