Obituary of Cyril James Horne
Cyril James Horne, 76, Westville Road, passed away, Monday, October 9, 2023, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Little Dover, he was a son of the late Harry Edward and Lucy Elizabeth (Keefe) Horne. Cyril was employed with Michelin Tire for over 30 years, retiring as a quality control supervisor. He was a life member of the Pictou Lions Club, where he served in many capacities. Cyril was an avid curler, having curled with the Westville Curling club for many years. He was an avid card player, playing Crib on Tuesday afternoons and in the evenings, Hearts at the curling club. Cyril enjoyed fishing in streams, rivers and through the ice, and in northern Quebec with his friends for many years. Cyril was an avid sports fan and a loyal supporter of the Montreal Canadiens. He was a captivating storyteller and possessed a unique comedic ability when telling jokes. Cyril was a good hearted, loyal, and hard-working man who loved his family dearly.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Sandra Gail (Feltmate) Horne; daughter, Sheri (Robert) Roper, Trenton; grandchildren, Jacob Roper (Jenna Rorrison), Abercrombie; Nathan and Lauren Roper, Trenton; brothers, Paul (Lorna) Horne, Canso; Gary Horne, Little Dover; sisters-in-law, Maryann Horne, Antigonish; Marge Horne, Halifax; brothers-in-law, Clair MacDonald, Little Dover; Enos Richard, Canso; many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sisters, Phyllis MacDonald and Anita Richard; brothers, Kevin in infancy, Ronnie and Terry.
The familly will receive visitors 1-1:50 p.m. Saturday, October 14 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home Chapel, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. with Father Paul Abbass presiding.
Interment will be in St. Agnes Roman Catholic Cemetery, Little Dover.
Donations may be made in Cyril’s memory to Special Olympics Nova Scotia.
