Obituary of Doris Margaret Sloan

Doris Margaret Sloan, 93, Stellarton, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, October 18, 2023, in the Aberdeen Hospital, Palliative Care Unit, surrounded by her family.

Born in Thorburn, she was a daughter of the late William Herbert and Sarah Violet (Haddad) MacDonald. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Doris graduated from the former Maritime Business College, Halifax, secretarial program in her late teens. She worked at the former Eastern Woodworkers, New Glasgow, and the Clairtone Sound Corporation Limited in Toronto and Stellarton. Following Doris was employed as the financial bookkeeper with the Children’s Aid Society of Pictou County until retirement. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Stellarton where she served in various capacities, including treasurer.  Following retirement, Doris volunteered her time with various organizations.

She was a kind, caring, generous lady who set a “high bar” for her family to follow.

Surviving are nieces and nephews, Finley (Vanda) MacDonald, Waterside; Aldena MacDonald (Bill Geddes), Rocklin; Ricky (Monique) MacDonald, Sylvester; Doris (Donald) Patterson, Thorburn; Edward “Ted” Ramsay, Windsor, Ont.; Daniel (Sheila) Ramsay, Wallace; Joanne Ramsay, Toronto, Ont.; many grand and great nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Daniel “Dan” Sloan; infant brother, Clarence MacDonald; sister, Ann Ramsay; brother, William “Bill” MacDonald; sister-in-law, Catherine “Kay” MacDonald; brother-in-law, Fred Ramsay; niece, Charlotte Munroe; nephew, Harvey MacDonald in infancy; grandniece, Jaclyn Sarah MacDonald in infancy.

The family will receive 1-1:50 p.m. Sunday, October 22 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home Chapel, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. with Rev. Charles McPherson officiating. Interment will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens. 

Donations may be made in memory of Doris to First Presbyterian Church, Stellarton.
