Obituary of Brendon William Mahoney
Brendon William Mahoney, 31, New Glasgow, passed away Sunday, October 22, 2023, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born in New Glasgow he was a son of Mark Allan and Wendy Marie (Hoare) Mahoney. Brendon learned carpentry from his dad, Mark, and worked alongside him with several companies for several years. He enjoyed “tinkering” with computers, thanks to his best friend, Boomer Kontuk who mentored him in computer design. Brendon’s Chevy Blazer was a constant project that he, Robert, and Tony kept improving. His cousin, Corey, was always there for him through “thick and thin”, he was his “second older brother”. Brendon idolized his older brother, Chad, and took every opportunity to spend time with him when he came home. He was always in contact with his older brother, wherever he was in the world. Brendon shared a special relationship with his maternal grandparents, Donnie and Kaye, who he often described as “the best nan and pup in the world”. He shared a special bond with his cousins, Corey, Presley, Sara, Jane, and Ashely, and spent many enjoyable hours with them. Brendon looked forward to spending time at his great-uncle and great-aunt’s, Elmer and Patsy, cottage in Halfway Cove. He considered Candy MacDonald to be his “second mother” who “spoiled him rotten”. Brendon is described by his family as having “the biggest heart”, “a contagious smile that would light up a room”, and “dance moves like no other”. He will be dearly missed by those he loved.
Surviving besides his parents, Mark and Wendy, are his brother, Chad (Janice) Mahoney, Falmouth; maternal grandparents, Donnie and Kaye (DeCoste) Hoare, Frasers Mountain; paternal grandparents, Marcia Mahoney, Lyons Brook and Gerald O’Brien, New Glasgow; paternal step-grandmother, Laura MacGillivray, Westville; maternal aunts, Debbie MacDonald (Kevin), New Glasgow; Jenny (Peter) Hecimovich, Linacy; paternal aunts, Stacey Mahoney, Chester; Karen (Stacey) MacKenzie, Westville; paternal uncles, Mark O’Brien, Mount Thom; Michael Mahoney, Pugwash; several great aunts and uncles; many cousins.
He was predeceased by maternal uncle, Stephen MacDonald; maternal great uncle, Elmer MacDonald; maternal cousin, Linda Pitts; great grand parents.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, October 26 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. A Celebration of Life will be held 1-3 p.m. Friday, October 27 in the Pictou County Wellness Centre, 2-2756 Westville Road, Westville Road.
