Obituary of Mabel Marie Johnstone
TRENTON – Mabel Marie Johnstone, 88, Trenton, passed away peacefully, November 3, 2023, at home surrounded by the love of her family.
Born in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late Simon Joseph and Mary Angeline Pitts. In earlier years, Mabel was employed with Glen Haven Manor for 11 years and with the former Trenton High School for 21 years. She was a member of the former Christ the King Roman Catholic Church, Trenton. Her family admired her ability to care for others, regardless of her own condition. She was always there when needed.
Mabel will be remembered as the “neighbourhood mother”, who cared for everyone like they were her own children. Her hospitability knew no boundaries, no one ever left her home hungry. Even on a difficult day, she maintained her wonderful sense of humour. Her family are grateful for the life lessons she taught them, compassion, love, perseverance, empathy, and tolerance. Mabel’s beautiful smile will be missed; however, they are comforted to know that for her, “Life has changed; not ended!”
Surviving are her daughters, Angela “Angie” Pentz (Darren), Edmonton, Alta.; Terri-Lynn (Pat) McMullen, Trenton; sons, Robert “Bob” (Elaine) Pentz, Trenton; Gary Pentz (Linda), Stellarton; Peter (Darlene) Pentz, Union Centre; Mark Pentz (Charlene), Sussex, N.B.; David “Illy” Pentz (Donna), Trenton; Paul (Deanne) Pentz, Westville; sisters, Linda (Gary) Burns, Irish Mountain; Theresa (Angus) Pellerine, Larry’s River; brothers, Simon (Aileen) Pitts, New Glasgow; Alphonse (Jean) Pitts, New Glasgow; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Terrance Edward “Terry” Johnstone; daughters, Patsy Robertson, and Karen Pentz; son, Raymond Pentz; sisters, twins, Ambie and Angie; brother, Peter.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, November 6 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 7 in the chapel with Rev. Charles McPherson officiating.
