Obituary of Sandy MacPherson

Alexander John Joseph “Sandy” MacPherson, 77, Abercrombie, passed away unexpectedly, Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at his winter residence in Florida with his wife, Agnes by his side.

Born on June 14, 1946, in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Murdock and Mary Catherine (MacDonald) MacPherson. Sandy was a well-respected Ford parts specialist, having been employed with the former Vee Eight Motors and Glasgow Mercury dealerships in New Glasgow for many years and finishing his career with Highland Ford, Alma. Following “retirement” he was employed with Stones RV in the after-sale orientation department. He was a faithful member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Stellarton, where he had served on parish council and other committees throughout the years.  Sandy’s passion was fire service, having served with the Abercrombie Volunteer Fire Department since its inception in 1979. He served as Deputy Chief for seven years and as Chief for 21 years and was currently Fire Chief at his passing. Sandy was actively involved in his community, serving in various capacities, always willing to “lend a hand”.

Sandy’s love for his family was immeasurable and unwavering. His grandchildren describe him as “amazing” and he truly excelled in his role as “Papa”. Sandy would happily do anything for his grandchildren and took every opportunity to make sure they knew how much he loved them.

Sandy leaves a rich legacy of love to his family which will be treasured forever. Although saddened, his family are not despondent, for they trust the promise made to him in baptism and believe that for Sandy, “Life has changed; not ended!”

Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Agnes (Anderson); daughter, Janice (Aaron) Manning, Abercrombie; Erik (Rhonda) MacPherson, Abercrombie; Mark (Heidi) MacPherson, Abercrombie; grandchildren, Broc, Tyson, Logan, Kenzie, Evelyn and Abigail; sisters-in-law, Diane MacPherson, Waverly; Frances Porter, Abercrombie; brothers-in-law, Jim MacLeod, Stellarton; Morgan (Pat) Anderson, Abercrombie; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Legora MacLeod; brother, Murdock MacPherson and infant brother, Richard MacPherson; sisters-in-law, Pauline Burnett, and Patricia Fitzgerald; brothers-in-law, George Burnett, Arnold Fitzgerald and Robert “Inky” Porter.

The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, November 20 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 21 in Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Stellarton with Father MacDonald Ibeh presiding. Interment will be in Abercrombie Cemetery.
