Obituary of Marion Kenny

Marion Kenny, 84, Scotsburn, passed away peacefully, Thursday, November 23, 2023, in the Aberdeen Hospital, Palliative Care Unit, New Glasgow, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late Francis Raphael and Marion (Campbell) Mahoney.  In earlier years, Marion was a stay-at-home mom to her four children, who she lovingly nurtured and guided. When her children were in high school, she returned to the workforce. She fondly recounted stories from her years in the payroll department with Sobeys Head Office, Stellarton. Marion was grateful for the many lifelong friends gained during those years. She possessed a kind and generous spirit. Marion and Lloyd were a perfect team, each giving 100 percent to support each other and their children.  The family fondly remember the many Thanksgiving dinners held at the lake and the special little details that Marion always seemed to make new each year. Looking forward to celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary in February 2024, Marion and Lloyd spent many hours reminiscing about the wonderful life and immense love they shared for over 60 years. Marion was a wonderful nanny to her grandchildren and an adoring nanny to her great-grandchildren. Although her family are saddened at her passing, they are comforted by their mom’s faith that promises, “Life has changed, not ended!”

Surviving are her loving husband of 59 years, Lloyd; children, Michael, Westville; Elva Cormier (Cory), Pleasant Valley; Steven (Margie Daley), Pleasant Valley; David (Ann), Granton; grandchildren, Michael, Rachel, Jeffrey, Beth (Niels), Mary, Kimberly (Kirk),

Sara (Jeremy) and Justin; great-grandchildren, Eli, Ellie, Saige, Nathan, Kaitryn, Everly, Ben and Noah; siblings, Ray (Marion) Mahoney, Pictou; Elizabeth Fraser, Stellarton; Peter Mahoney (Susan MacDonald), Stellarton; Patricia (Pat) Brophy, Stellarton; aunt, Thelma McQuinn, Toronto, Ont; sister-in-law, Marcia Mahoney, Loch Broom; many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, Paul, Lyle, and Michael Mahoney.

The family will receive visitors 1-1:50 p.m. Monday, November 27 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home Chapel, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. with Father MacDonald Ibeh presiding.  Interment will be in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery, Stellarton.

The Kenny family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the health care professionals with the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit. Special thank you to her family physician, Dr. Mahsa Ghoreishi.

Donations may be made in Marion’s memory to the Pictou County Palliative Care Society.
