Obituary of Stephen Joseph Dawson

Stephen Joseph Dawson, 73, Pictou Landing, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, December 26, 2023, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on Bell Island, N.L., he was a son of the late Edward and Johanna “Joan” (Mahoney) Dawson. Prior to retirement Stephen was employed in construction in Toronto, having previously worked as a lake boat deckhand on the Great Lakes and on oil tankers out of Newfoundland. He was an avid sports fan, especially enjoyed watching hockey. Stephen treasured time spent with family and friends. He possessed a quiet faith and has now realized the promise made to him in baptism. For Stephen, “life has changed; not ended!”

Surviving are his sisters, Marie (Gary) MacKinnon, Trenton; Agnes (Wally) Hale, Kingston, Ont.; brothers, William “Bill” Dawson, Kingston; John (Rita) Dawson, Scarborough, Ont.; Edward (Pauline) Dawson, North River, N.L.; James “Jim” (Mary) Dawson, Clarkes Beach, N.L.; Kevin (Beaty) Dawson, Thorburn, N.L.; dear friend, Rosetta Martin, New Glasgow; many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sister, Rita, in infancy; sisters-in-law, Bernice and Barbara Dawson.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held in All Hallows Roman Catholic Church, North River, N.L. at a time and date to be announced. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
