Obituary of Clarice Mabel MacDonald

Clarice Mabel MacDonald, 95, New Glasgow, formerly of Telford, passed away peacefully, Sunday, January 14, 2024, in the Aberden Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born in Cable Head West, P.E.I., a daughter of the late Jasper Elliot and Ida Elizabeth (Betchley) MacLaren. In 1939 she and her family moved to Thorburn (Cricketfield) where she was raised. Following her marriage to John James “Jackie” MacDonald, she resided in Telford for almost 50 years. She never lost her love for Prince Edward Island, returning many times over her lifetime to her “gentle isle”. Clarice will be fondly remembered for her “piping hot black coffee” every morning and her amazing crossword skills. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed showering her boys with her knitted socks and hats. Losing her husband in 1967, she became sole provider, “mother and father” and “rock” to her five children. She was the embodiment of the “good woman” as described in Proverbs 31. For Clarice, she now enjoys the fulfilment of her faith - eternal peace and happiness with her Lord.

Surviving are her daughter, Wilda MacDonald, Gaffney, S.C.; sons, John, New Glasgow; Keith (Allison), Halifax; Grant (Susan), New Glasgow; Colin, Telford; grandchildren, Tara, Rebekah, David, Laura, Fraser, Cameron and Melissa; great-grandchildren, Devin, Mackenzie, Everleigh, Elaya, Scott and Owen; many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Jackie; sister, Joyce MacLeod; brothers, Vernon and Joe MacLaren; sisters-in-law, Mary MacLaren, and Louise MacLaren; brother-in-law, Maurice MacLeod.

In honour of their mother’s wishes, Clarice’s family will honour her life privately.

Clarice’s family are very appreciative of all those who have helped her on her final journey. They wish to thank, the Pictou County VON, Kaitlyn Chaisson, NP, the Palliative Care home team and the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care unit physicians, staff and volunteers for the care received.
