Obituary of Joseph Arthur Curnew
Joseph Arthur “Joe” Curnew, 81, Stellarton, passed away, Sunday, January 21, 2024, in Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in Stephenville Crossing, N.L., he was a son of the late Arthur and Anne (Bourgeois) Curnew. Joe was a woodsman, and thoroughly enjoyed his career as a wood cutter. For Joe, “life has changed; not ended!”
Surviving are his wife, Yvonne Dorren (Gillis) Curnew; daughter, Mary (Joe) Myers, Antigonish; son, Joey (Karen) Curnew, Stellarton; step-daughters, Michelle Walsh, Halifax; Stephanie Walsh, New Glasgow; step-sons, Peter (Allison) Walsh, Halifax; Marc (Rachel) Walsh, Black Point; 14 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; sisters, Margaret Young, Corner Brook, N.L.; brothers, Patrick Curnew, West Bay, N.L.; Robert (Doris) Curnew, Stephenville Crossing; Lawrence (Jeannie) Curnew, West Bay; Brendan Curnew, Lourdes, N.L.; Leo (Elizabeth) Curnew, Bridgewater; many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Doris (Haggart); grandson, Justin Myers in infancy; sisters, Kathleen Francis and Cecilia LaCosta; brother, Ralph Curnew; brothers, Frank and Ronnie in infancy.
The family will receive visitors 10 – 10:50 a.m. Thursday, January 25 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home Chapel, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held 11 a.m. with Father Thomas A. MacNeil presiding.
Interment will be in Assumption Parish Cemetery, Stephenville Crossing at a later date.
Donations may be made in Joe’s memory to the Assumption Parish Cemetery, Stephenville Crossing.
