Obituary of Loise Marguerite Brennan

On February 25, 2024, Loise Marguerite Brennan, danced her way to Heaven. As saddened as we are to let her go, she has been given her wings to leave us and join her beloved husband, Everett.

Loise was born in New Glasgow and raised in “God’s Country”, Mount Thom, Pictou County with her heroic parents Roy Burton and Sara Margaret (MacGillivray) Creelman, and her late sister, Phyllis Lochead.

Loise was a graduate of the Nova Scotia Hospital School of Nursing, class of 1958.  She remained friends with many of classmates. While home from nursing school one weekend, she attended a dance in Westville, where she met the love of her life, Everett.  She married him in August 1959, and they shared 46 years of devotion to each other.

Work brought both Everett and Loise to Modesto, Calif., where she was employed in the Emergency Department of the local hospital for a brief time before relocating to St. Thomas, Ont., where she continued to pursue her nursing career.

Their roots lead them back home where they established their farmstead on the River Road, Plymouth. She continued her career at the Sutherland Harris Memorial Hospital, Pictou.  Throughout her life, she was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church, Stellarton.

Loise enjoyed “get togethers” where she brought out her 1472 copies of Company’s Coming Recipe books. She was happiest when surrounded by friends and family. She always looked forward to the dances with the Garvie’s, barn dances, weddings, and showers.  Loise was in her glory preparing for newly wed and baby showers and anniversaries throughout the years.

In her downtime, she enjoyed crafting, knitting, flower gardening, pickling and preserved all the vegetables and fruits that the farm produced. Loise loved her late-night phone calls to family and friends, where the sound of laughter rang throughout the house. She enjoyed traveling throughout North America to visit family and friends.

Her children kept her “spinning and twirling” and gave her the best gifts she could ever receive, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. “Nanny Loise” lit up with sheer joy each time they visited her. She had the mindset, “if children are the rainbows of life, then, grandchildren and great-grandchildren are the Pot of Gold.”

Surviving are her children, Rosemary Brennan, Dartmouth; Karen (Kevin) Boudreau, Eureka; son, Bruce Brennan, Stellarton; grandchildren, Natasha MacDonald (Malcolm McPhail), Dartmouth; Nikita MacDonald (Billy Fullerton), Muskoka, Ont.; Danielle Boudreau, Eureka; Brittany Boudreau, Spryfield; great-grandchildren, Riley, Ava, Harley, Jack, and Gabriel; brother-in-law, Harold Lochead; several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Everett Parker Brennan; sister, Phyllis Lochead; sisters-in-law, Doris Garvie, Jean Brennan, and Katie Brennan; brothers-in-law, Joseph Garvie, Harry Brennan and Elliott Brennan.

The family will receive visitors 2-2:50 p.m. Thursday, February 29 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home Chapel, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. with Rev. Charles McPherson officiating.  Spring interment will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens.

Loise’s family wish to extend special thanks to the staff at Northwood, Halifax for their love and nurturing over the past year. They are grateful to her former neighbours and staff at Parkland at the Lakes, Dartmouth for the wonderful 11 years she experienced.

Loise could take on the world…

“But first, I need my lipstick”.

Lovingly witten by family.
