Obituary of Isabel Barbara Hammond

Isabel Barbara Hammond, 88, Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow, formerly of Trenton and Amherst, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 23, 2024, in the Manor.

Born in Trenton, she was a daughter of the late John Dan and Mary Elsie (DeYoung) MacDonald. Isabel was Certified Nursing Assistant with Highland View Regional Hospital, Amherst for 33 years. Even after retirement, she continued to “nurse” seniors for many years, helping those in need. She enjoyed her yearly trips to Ruskin, Fla., in the late 1990’s and 2000’s, where she spent many enjoyable hours fishing in the Manatee River. She possessed a “heart of gold” and took care of many elderly people in the park, delivering meals three times a week to those in need. Isabel kindness was extended to many homeless people, most memorable, a homeless man in Ruskin for whom she would go shopping to provide him with the necessities.  Isabel was noted for her cooking, especially her apple pie of which her friend Dr. Parkhill would often request. Her only granddaughter, Alexandra, knew she was her grandmother’s “pride and joy”. She was a devoted mother, who sacrificed much for the love of her children. For Isabel, “life has changed; not ended!”

Surviving are her husband, Jack Hammond, Laggan; son Shane McInnis, Scotch Hill; daughter, Audra (Normand) Lacroix, Ottawa; granddaughter, Alexandra Lacroix, Ottawa; brother, Tom MacDonald, Pictou Landing; sister, Bertha Ryan, Hamilton, Ont.; sisters-in-law, Irene MacDonald, Thorburn; Mary Bell MacDonald, Little Harbour; numerous nieces and nephews.
