To Eileen’s Family
I was surprised and saddened to learn of Eileen’s passing. We were classmates in grade twelve at EPRH. Although we didn’t keep in touch much over the years, we recently met up again at a Celebration of Life for another classmate, Elmer MacDonald.
We had a great chat remembering shared times and former friends. As always, Eileen’s manner was so open and cheerful, and we agreed to keep in touch.
Sending my condolences and prayers.

A tremendous loss to all, especially Father Colin, Thresea, and Cecelia. An inspiration to all who knew her, especially myself. We went to the same Church,, same High School, were Councillirs for the Municipality of Pictou County together , and we both accompanied the Pictou County Old time fidders, she on piano, myself on guitar. I can imagine the joy at Heavens gate where Hughie, Fred, Earle, and all the deceased fiddlers would be waiting for her arrival.
I dont remember an event in the Lismore area of Pictou County that she wasn't instrumental in, usually in a leading role. Even after she retired from Council, she continued to advocate for persons who didn't really know who else to turn to. A most special person that I will miss terribly.

Eileen MacKinnon was a person who cared and shared. Out of the blue, she found me across the miles and the generations to share her knowledge of our common ancestor, Angus MacKinnon. He was an original settler of Baileys Brook. And Eileen was living on the very land that Angus first farmed more than 200 years ago. She gave me a wonderful tour of that beautiful part of the world, sharing a great deal about our family history. Eileen showed genuine hospitality, as did her brother and sisters. I was very much looking forward to seeing her again this summer and enjoying another sunny day on the beach or sipping some tea in Angus's old farmhouse and hearing her play. (Here is a picture of Eileen in the middle of one of her great laughs in August 2022. She was touring me around St. Mary's cemetery and telling a very funny story about one of our long-ago cousins. And another picture of her tuning the fiddle with her brother Colin in the old MacKinnon farmhouse.)

It is with shock and great sadness that Mary K. and I handle the passing of Eileen. She was a good friend for many years and served with us on the Riverview Home Volunteer Association; for a considerable time as the dedicated Secretary. Eileen had a great sense of humour and a memorable laugh which was easily sparked. We joked with each other on the political front and once in awhile included religion. Just last week at a meeting of the Riverview Home Corporation, I referred to myself, in jest, as her socialist Protestant cousin, which with a chuckle she denied, and I countered that we at least kissing cousins. She loved to have a friendly sparring match. Eileen will be deeply missed by many and long remembered. Mary K. and I extend sincere sympathy to Father Colin and all family members and others she held dear to her. Rest in Peace Dear Eileen
