Obituary of Sonny Isaacs

 

David “Sonny” Isaacs, 94, Auburn, formerly of Stellarton, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at home.

 

Born in Stellarton, he was a son of the late Thomas Richard and Anna Mae (MacPherson) Isaacs.  He began working at the former Trenton Works at a young age. He joined the Canadian Army starting in the Canadian Guards in 1955, completing his basic training in Ipperwash. Shortly after the Guards were disbanded, he joined the Black Watch Regiment and completed three years of service in Germany. Within a few months upon return to Camp Aldershot, the Black Watch was disbanded, and he joined the Royal Canadian Regiment, Gagetown, retiring with the rank of sergeant in 1977. Following his service, he was employed with Michelin Tire Granton for 15 years, retiring in 1991. Sonny was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Stellarton and the Black Watch Association.  He enjoyed playing crib, dancing, and traveling around the world.

 

Surviving are his wife, Marion Foster; daughters, Mary Isaacs (Darlene Boyle), Vancouver, B.C.; Debbie Reid, New Glasgow; son, Michael Christopher (Eileen) Isaacs, Edmonton, Alta.; grandchildren, Erin (Brenden), Josh (Heather), Brody and William; great-grandchildren, Colmcille, Conall, Jordyn Marie and Camden.; several nieces and nephews.

 

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife of 61 years, Marion Jean (Bryan) Isaacs; son, Thomas Isaacs; sisters, Ellen Crooks, Dorothy Cutter; brother, Richard Isaacs.

 

The family will receive visitors 1 – 1:50 p.m. Tuesday, July 2 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held 2 p.m. with Father MacDonald Ibeh presiding.  Interment will be in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery, Stellarton.

 

Donations may be made in Sonny’s memory to The Salvation Army or Canadian Red Cross.
