Obituary of Clinton Douglas Langille

Clinton Douglas Langille – loving father, husband, brother, and son – passed peacefully in his sleep in the early hours of June 22 at the age of 64 and one year after he was diagnosed with ALS.

Clinton will forever be remembered for the love he had for his surviving wife Karen, son Justin, brothers Shawn and Dan, mother Durece, nephews Benjamin and Matt, and niece Miranda.

On his retirement from the federal government in 2019 after 34 years of service, Clinton returned to his home province of Nova Scotia to be with his mother and father – Edison – before his passing in 2021.

While he grew up and spent his final days on the fields and shores of the Maritimes, Clinton lived most of his life elsewhere, exploring the world with his wife and young son. Through his service to Canada (always the “best country in the world,”) Clinton showed his family the incredible sights and cultures found in Australia, Jordan, and countless other countries across the Middle East and Europe.

Whenever the family was not on post overseas, Ottawa served as home base – the city where Clinton met Karen, where Justin was born, and where countless close friendships were made. Many enduring friendships were also made while overseas, leaving Clinton with friends on all corners of the globe.

No matter where in the world he was, Clinton could be counted on to bring his sense of humour and his compassion to those around him. His love of nature meant much time was spend around a campfire looking up at the stars, kayaking on a calm lake, or walking through fresh forests.

A celebration of life will be held for Clinton on July 4 from 2 to 4 p.m. in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, 536 Merigomish Road, New Glasgow.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations in Clinton’s memory to either VON Pictou County or the ALS Society of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.
