Obituary of Ivy Myrtle Wasson

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ivy Myrtle Wasson (nee Harris), on Wednesday, July 17th, 2024, at the age of 85, in Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.

Ivy will forever be loved by her devoted husband James "Jim" of 64 years, and by her children, Kim (Gary) Compton, Karyn (Murray) Latter, Kelly (Rich) Addison, and Kathy Wasson. She was dearly loved by her nine grandchildren: Laura, Emily, Kathryn, Justin, Jillian, Matthew, David, Victoria and Clark, as well as seven great-grandchildren. Ivy will also be remembered by her sister Yvonne Brown and sister-in-law Anne Harris. Ivy was predeceased by her parents Earle and Clarice Harris, brother Robert Harris and stepmother Ruth Harris.

Ivy was born in Saint John, N.B. on August 25th, 1938. In her teen years she met the love of her life and later married Jim Wasson. Together they lived in Moncton, Halifax, Trenton and New Glasgow. Ivy was a piano teacher for many years and had a great love of music. She was actively involved in the Salvation Army as Corps Pianist, Singing Company leader, band member, and was faculty at many music camps. She also was a Brownie and Guide leader.   Ivy was a steadfast Christian who enjoyed attending Bible Study and did daily devotions. She and Jim created a happy home filled with love, laughter, and good food, especially sweets. As a devoted mother, Ivy also made education a priority for her children. She enjoyed crafts such as knitting, cross stitch and tole painting, and loved the challenge of a jigsaw puzzle as well as the NY Times Crossword. She was a TOPS member and leader and an avid walker. During her retirement, she and Jim travelled extensively throughout Canada and the US. In later years, she looked forward to their daily drives.

The family will receive visitors 2-3 p.m. Saturday, July 20 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow.  In keeping with Mom’s wishes, a private family service will follow.

Family flowers only. Donations may be made in Ivy’s memory to the Pictou County Food Bank, or a charity of choice.

Lovingly submitted by family.
