Obituary of Joseph Raymond Fisher

Joseph Raymond “Ray” Fisher, 76, Merigomish, formerly of Newport, Wales, passed away Thursday, August 29, 2024, in the QEII, VG Site, Halifax surrounded by the love of his family.

Born in London, England, he was a son of the late John Young Thoms and Violet Louvain (Pritchard) Fisher.  Ray was a self-employed carpenter throughout South Wales during his working years, working on small and big projects.  He was “dad” first, always putting the needs of his wife and family before his own. He will be fondly remembered for his ability to get his family through good and bad times. Ray possessed a playful sense of humour, which materialized at the most appropriate times. He will be remembered as a dependable, generous and loving man who made the world a better place.

Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Christine (Evans) Fisher; daughter, Carol Fisher, Sleaford, Lincolnshire, England; sons, Martin (Victoria) Fisher, Truro; Steven (Tanya) Fisher, Newport, South Wales; grandchildren, Cerys, Owain, James, Alex, Emily, Olivia and Sophie; sisters, Jean Godfrey, Llantarnam, Wales; Elaine (Geoff) Bennett, Little Mill, Usk, Wales; brothers, John (Helen) Fisher and Garry (Barbara) Fisher, Sebastapol, Wales; many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his father and mother-in-law, Winfred Jane and Ronald George Evans.

In honour of Joseph’s wishes, his family will celebrate his life privately.
