Obituary of Thurman "Doc" Jewell
Thurman “Doc” Mitchell Jewell, 83, of New Glasgow, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, August 30, 2024, at Aberdeen Hospital, surrounded by the love of his life and his cherished family.
Born in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia on June 16, 1941, Doc began working at the age of 15 with MacLeod’s Plumbing, where he spent many years before joining Scott Paper (now Northern Pulp) in 1970. After 35 years of dedicated service, he retired. Doc was an avid golfer who also enjoyed curling and bowling, winning numerous trophies over the years. He had a deep love for family gatherings and was truly beloved by all who knew him.
Doc is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Anne (Davidson), who held a very special place in his heart. He also leaves behind his sons, Mitchell (Michelle), Lower Barney’s River and Redell (Kathy), Alma; his daughters, Beverlee, New Glasgow and Nina Lee (Rahman), Washington, DC; his chosen daughter, Aleia; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. “Big Pappa” will be deeply missed by his great-grandchildren, Deklen and Jaxon, as well as by his brothers, sisters, and extended family.
He was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Leia “Sue”; his mother, Agatha; his chosen mother, Hilda Dorrington; his brothers, Tom and Francis “Nooks”; and his sister, Silvia.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 p.m., Thursday, September 5, 2024 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, September 6, with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. Cremation will take place after the service.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Aberdeen Hospital doctors and nurses on the fourth floor, North Wing, for their compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Doc’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society.
