Obituary of Ernest Paul Majcan Jr.

Ernest Paul Majcan Jr., 71, New Glasgow, passed away, Wednesday, September 4, 2024, in the Aberdeen Hospital, ICU department, New Glasgow surrounded by his loving family.

Born on May 28, 1953, and raised in New Glasgow, Ernie was the first-born son to Ernest Paul Majcan Sr. and Rachel Elizabeth (Livingstone) Majcan. Ernie was very proud of his Yugoslavian heritage and continued to research his history over the years.

Ernie began his working career at a young age pumping gas at the family gas station in French River, then on to a few more family-owned businesses such as the gas station on Marsh Street, New Glasgow and his father’s garage, Ernie’s fix it Shop, New Glasgow, fixing cars, hydraulic jacks and anything else he was presented.

Ernie worked for the Town of New Glasgow for many years starting in 1973 after graduating from New Glasgow High School. He worked for Lenargo Industries, New Glasgow for a few years until closing and then returned to the Public Works Department as Charge Hand from where he retired in 2018, where he left behind many work friends that he cherished until his passing.

Ernie possessed a strong work ethic that he instilled in his children, who were the love of his life. Always tinkering with something new there wasn’t a thing he couldn’t fix. He enjoyed fishing, working on his land, going for long drives in the car or on his motorcycle with Marjorie and the Pictou County Cruisers.  Ernie cherished time spent with his grandchildren and was always eager to receive updates on their sports and education.

He was a big man with a big presence. Ernie had a huge heart. He always had a joke or story to tell whoever would listen. Anyone that knew him couldn’t help but love him. Ernie was always there for anyone that needed help or a lending hand, even an animal that needed saving.  He had many dogs over the years, which all held a special place in his heart.

Ernie dearly loved his children, he raised his girls on his own until later in life, when he met the love of his life, Marjorie and was blessed with two sons.  He considered his children his greatest accomplishment. There is nothing that he would not do for his children or grandchildren – they were his world. Ernie always said, “they are what I live for”.  He was his families “Rock” and will be greatly missed by all those he loved.

Surviving are his fiancé of 32 years, Marjorie Goodyear, New Glasgow; daughters, Peggy (Toma) Yarn, Ont; Michelle (Alan) Caldwell, Trenton; Pamela Majcan (Darrell Johnston), Trenton; sons, Ernie III (Samantha), New Glasgow; Christopher (Megan), New Glasgow; grandchildren; Stancho, Taylor, Braxten, Easton, Callie, Rumen, Jaxson and Piper; brother, John (Roslyn) Majcan, Summerside, PEI.; niece, Rachel; nephews, Joshua, Jacob and Jonathan; aunt, Rita Ramsay; many cousins.

Besides his parents, Ernest Sr. and Elizabeth, he was predeceased by his youngest daughter, Jennifer Lynn Marie Majcan.
