Obituary of Mary Josephine McInnes

Mary Josephine “Josie” McInnes, 86, Valley View Villa, Riverton, formerly Egerton, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, September 10, 2024, in the Villa.

Born in Egerton, she was the daughter of the late Reginald Peter and Ethel Josephine (Lochart) MacNeil. Following graduation from the former East Pictou Rural High School and St. F.X. University, she began her career as a Registered Dietician at St. Elizabeth Hospital, North Sydney, then Port Edward Sanatorium for T.B., Nova Scotia Sanatorium, Kentville and a summer at the Grace Maternity, Halifax.  She moved back to Egerton and was employed with the Aberdeen Hospital from 1972 until retirement in 2001. She was a member of the former St. Andrew’s Roman Catholic Church, Egerton and Church of the Holy Name, Westville.  Josie was a member of the IODE Sir Frederick Banting Chapter, New Glasgow for many years. She enjoyed curling, golf, playing cards, especially, bridge. For Josie, “Life has changed; not ended!”

Surviving are her sons, Alexander “Sandy” McInnes, Egerton; Robert “Bobby” (Heather) McInnes, Egerton; Phillip McInnes, New Glasgow; grandchildren, Hayley, Rory and Teagan; sister-in-law, Elizabeth “Betty” MacNeil, Truro; nieces, Jackie, Karen (Chris), Patricia (Stephen) and Margaret; nephews, Peter and Billy; several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Willam Fraser McInnes; brother, Leonard MacNeil. The family will receive visitors 10-10:50 a.m. Saturday, September 14 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home Chapel, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. with Father Colin F. MacKinnon presiding. Interment will be in St. Andrew’s Cemetery, Egerton.
