Obituary of Catherine Dianne Stewart

 

Catherine Dianne “Cathy” Stewart, 60, Stellarton, passed away peacefully, Thursday, October 3, 2024, at home, surrounded by her loving family.

 

Born in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late Gerald William and Lois Lillian (MacKenzie) McKinnon. Cathy had been employed with Canada Post, having previously worked as an Educational Assistant. Cathy cherished being a wife, mother and grandmother. She was a “social butterfly” who thrived being with people. Cathy was loving, empathic and nurturing. She most enjoyed spending time with her family.

 

Surviving are her husband, Mitchell Stewart; daughters, Rebecca “Bekki” Wilson (Thomas Scott) and their son, William, Ladner, B.C.; Lyndsey (Jeff) Allen and their daughters, Lily and Piper, Ladner; son, Benjamin “Ben” (Mairi) Wilson and their daughter, Maren, New Glasgow; step-son, Jordan Jewell, New Glasgow; sister, Lisa McKinnon (Rob Patton), New Glasgow; brothers, Jerry (Anita) McKinnon, Trenton; Rob McKinnon (Pam Gallant), Hammonds Plains; soul sister and best friend, June Anne (Darren) Archibald, Red Deer, Alta.; paternal aunts, Isabelle Henderson, Stellarton;  Leslie (Randy) MacEachern, New Glasgow; paternal uncles, Don Power (Carol Anne), North Sydney; chosen aunt, Lois “Gorm” Morrell, New Glasgow; mother-in-law, Cheryl (Henry) Young, New Glasgow; brothers-in-law, Donald (Lisa) Stewart, MacLellans Brook; Logan Young, Stellarton; niece, Morgan (Chad) Spears, New Glasgow; nephews, Graham and Greg Quinn, New Glasgow; many cousins.

 

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by many maternal aunts and uncles; father-in-law, Donald Russell Stewart.

 

The family will receive visitors 1-3 p.m. Sunday, October 6 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow, with Words of Comfort to follow.

 

Donations may be made in Cathy’s memory to the QEII Health Sciences Centre Foundation, Dr. Mark Walsh, Division of General and Gastrointestinal Surgery.  

 

Cathy’s family wish to thank Dr. Mark Walsh and surgical team, Dr. Nadine Hewett and the QEII Palliative Team, Elizabeth Hall MacDonald RN and the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Team, Westside Sobeys Pharmacy Team, for the excellent care given. They also wish to acknowledge all those who have contacted Cathy and her family with words of support or have helped in any way. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
