Obituary of Lionel Allan Francis Butler
Lionel Allan Francis Butler, 68, Ardness, passed away peacefully, Thursday, October 17, 2024, in the Aberdeen Hospital, Palliative Care Unit, New Glasgow, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born in Antigonish, he was a son of the late Allan George and Mary Margaret (MacDonald) Butler. Lionel was a welder and had been employed with the former Trenton Works and prior to retirement, Pictou Shipyard. For Lionel, “life has changed; not ended!”
Surviving are his daughter, Melinda Butler, Greenhill; sons, Daniel Butler, Antigonish; Scott Butler, Saskatoon, Sask.; sisters, Marilyn Woods (Don Jeffery), Greenhill; Irma Delaney, Lakevale; brothers, Leo (Tillie) Butler, Southampton, Ont.; Don Butler, Ardness; Carl (Roxane) Butler, Hammond Plains; Paul Butler, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates; brother-in-law, Gerard Delaney, Merigomish; aunts, Beverely (Alan) Roberts, Antigonish; Catherine MacDonald, New Glasgow; uncles, John Duncan (Marg) MacDonald, Mississauga, Ont.; Clarrie (Joan) MacDonald, Bobcaygeon, Ont.; Bernie MacDonald, Lismore; many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Elaine Delaney; brother-in-law Pete Delaney; aunt, Ann (Ron) MacDonald; uncle, Francis MacDonald.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 p.m. Sunday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Monday, October 21 in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Lismore with Father Rowland Agomuo presiding. Interment will be in St. Mary’s cemetery.
Donations may be made in memory of Lionel to St. Mary’s Cemetery, Lismore.
