Obituary of Dennis Matthew Talbot McGee
Dennis Matthew Talbot "Boo" McGee, 72, Maritime Odd Fellows Home, Pictou, formerly of Westville, Stellarton and Merigomish, passed away peacefully, Saturday, November 16, 2024, in the home, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Francis Joseph and Margaret Louise (Reid) McGee. He was a member of Holy Name Roman Catholic Church, Westville, having previously attended the former St. Gregory’s Parish, New Glasgow and St. Ann’s Parish, Thorburn. Through out his working years, Dennis was never idle, when a job ended or slowed, he always found a new job. Prior to retirement, he was employed with Eastern Tire, New Glasgow. Dennis had three priorities in life, faith, family and hockey. He was a loyal Boston Bruins fan. Dennis enjoyed hockey, whether playing on a pond, watching kids in the rink or watching his beloved Bruins on TV. He also enjoyed baseball, never missing a Red Sock’s (his second favourite) game or watching his grandson play league ball. His love for family knew no boundaries. He was happiest when surrounded by his children and grandchildren. Dennis maintained a close relationship with his siblings, nieces and nephews throughout the years. His love for his late wife, Gail, was immeasurable – she was his everything. Since her passing in 2020, he has longed for the day they would be reunited, which now has been granted through his faith in God. Dennis faithfully attended Mass throughout the years and recited The Rosary daily. Although saddened at his passing, his family are comforted to know that he now is at peace, surrounded by all those who have gone before him, especially, Gail.
Surviving are his daughters, Pam (Evan) Lavers, Westville; Holly McGee (Alexi Ladéroute), St. John’s, N.L.; grandchildren, Rhyan, Tatum and Jaxx Lavers, Westville; sisters, Sheila MacDonald, New Glasgow; Jean McGee, Antigonish; brothers, Mike McGee (Marie Comeau), Ecuador; sisters-in-law, Marsha McGee, Edmonton, Alta.; Sandra McGee, Thorburn; Marie McGee, Cambridge, Ont.; Joanne MacAulay, New Glasgow; brothers-in-law, Michael (Stephanie) O’Hagan, Yarmouth; Wayne (Rose) O’Hagan, Churchville; many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 40 years, Gail Violet (O’Hagan) McGee; sister, Bertha M. “Penny” Gaudet; brothers, Frank, Jack and Pat McGee; niece, Shelly McGee; nephew, Darren Gaudet; sister-in-law, Peggy McGee; brother-in-law, Bill MacDonald
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 19 in Holy Name Roman Catholic Church, Westville with Father Peter J. MacDonald presiding. Interment will be in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Thorburn.
