Obituary of Margaret Edith Ross
"All you need in the world is love and laughter. That’s all anybody needs. To have love in one hand and laughter in the other."
– August Wilson
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Margie Edith Ross, who left us on November 18, 2024, at the age of 65.
Margie was born on May 4, 1959, in Stephenville Crossing and was raised St. George's, Newfoundland, as the seventh child of Willis and Mary White. Though she spent much of her life in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, her Newfoundland roots ran deep, and she was fiercely proud of her heritage, especially her roots in St. George's, Newfoundland. She carried the warmth and kindness of her home with her wherever she went.
Margie’s heart was as big as her laughter—unforgettable and contagious. She lived by the philosophy that the greatest gift we can offer the world is love and laughter. With her radiant smile and boisterous laugh, she lit up every room and touched everyone she met. Her spirit of generosity knew no bounds; she had a remarkable ability to make those around her feel cherished and valued. Margie loved with abandon, fierceness and unapologetically, whether it was her family, friends, or the special pets in her life, whom she lovingly called Persian and Chunky Monkey. She was a woman who made life richer and fuller simply by being in it.
In 1974, Margie began her journey between Newfoundland and Nova Scotia, staying with her sister and best friend, Barb. Over time, she made her home in Nova Scotia, where she met her true love and soulmate, Scott Ross, on December 4, 1985. Their 37 years of marriage were a testament to a partnership built on love, laughter, and mutual respect, and they shared a remarkable 39 years together, supporting each other through every stage of life.
Margie dedicated much of her career to the telecommunications industry, working with Bell Aliant for many years. She started at the MT&T Phone Store at the Aberdeen Mall and forged lasting friendships with her colleagues, including Kim, Wendy, Paula, Marilynn, and so many others who admired her warmth, dedication, and ability to brighten the workplace. She retired in 2014, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and a network of lifelong friendships that she treasured dearly.
A loving wife, mother, and sister, Margie is survived by her devoted husband, Scott Ross, of 37 years; her son, Tyler Ross, and daughter-in-law Alannah Ross, who were a constant source of pride and joy in her life. Margie also leaves behind her siblings: Delphine Ward, Zita Walsh (Pat), Rod White (Colleen), Larry White, Pam Lee (Joey), and Kim White-Bonnie (Dale); as well as her extended family, including in-laws Jim Bell (Susan), Bernie Ross (Dixie), Doug Perrin, Gwen Savage (Ken), Donnie Ross (Janice), Kathy Baker (Everett), Donna Conway (Ronnie), and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who became like family to her.
Margie was preceded in death by her parents, Willis and Mary White, her sister, Barb, her brother, Tommy, her mother-in-law, Gerry Ross, and her sisters-in-law, Tish Perrin and Beatrice White as well as her brother-in-law, Russell Ward.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, November 22, 2024, from 11 AM until 5 PM at her family home, 1359 Frasers Mountain Road. Friends and family are invited to come together to honour a life well lived and to share stories of the joy Margie brought to everyone fortunate enough to know her.
In her memory, we hold on to the lesson she taught us all: the most beautiful things in life are love, laughter, and the relationships we build along the way. Margie will forever live on in the hearts of those she loved and who loved her in return.
A Poem to Me Mudder!
When me prayers were poorly said,
Who tucked me in me widdle bed,
And spanked me till me widdle ass was red?
Me Mudder.
Who took me from me cozy cot,
And put me on me ice cold pot,
And made me pee if me could not?
Me Mudder.
And when the morning light would come,
And in me crib me dribbled some,
Who wiped me tiny widdle bum?
Me Mudder.
Who would me hair so gently part,
And hug me gently to her heart,
And sometimes squeeze me till me fart?
Me Mudder.
Who looked at me with eyebrows knit,
And nearly had a king sized fit,
When in my Sunday clothes me shit?
Me Mudder.
When at night the bed did squeak,
Me raised me head to have a peek,
Who yelled at me to go to sleep?
Me Fadder.
