Obituary of Barbara Mary Weatherbie

 

Barbara Mary Weatherbie, RN (Ret’d), 95, Trenton, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, December 10, 2024, in the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit,

 

Born in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, she was a daughter of the late Robert Chesley and Mary Elizabeth (MacDonald) MacFarlane. Barbara was a member of the Class of 1952, Aberdeen Hospital School of Nursing. Obtaining her Registered Nurse designation, she was employed with the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow until retirement in 1989. She was a member of First United Church, Trenton. Barbara and her late husband, Bill, travelled throughout Europe four times, and took many trips south of the border to Florida, Jamaica, and Mexico. She fondly remembered their cross Canada adventure in 1997. Barbara enjoyed reading, going for walks, scrapbooking, quilting and loved gardening. She was a beautiful lady who will be long remembered for her many wonderful qualities, grace and dignity.

 

Surviving are her daughter, Catherine MacLeod, Pictou; sons, Douglas (Debbie) Weatherbie, Lyons Brook; Robert “Rob” Weatherbie, Merigomish; William “Will” Weatherbie, Trenton; grandchildren, Abby Weatherbie, Matthew MacLeod and David MacLeod (Brenden); great-grandchildren, Ella, Ava; sister, Blanche MacFarlane, Merigomish; many nieces and nephews.

 

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by husband, William Ronald “Bill” Weatherbie; daughter, Barbara Ryan; granddaughter, Dawn Marie Ryan; sons-in-law, William “Billy” Ryan and John MacLeod; sisters-in-law, Mable in infancy, Francis (Alex) Irving and Shirley (Floyd) Moore; brothers-in-law, Jim (Jo), Raymond (Lou), Roland (Bernice), Earl, Herb (Hazel) and Doug.

 

The family will receive visitors 1 – 1:50 p.m. Friday, December 13 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home Chapel, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. Interment will be in Seaview Cemetery, Pictou.  

 

Barbara's family wish to thank the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Team and Pictou County VON staff. Special thank you to Sophie, Susan, Jenny and Darlene for their care and friendship.
