Obituary of Carol Lorraine Fraser
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Carol “Lorraine” Fraser, 89, of Glen Haven Manor, formerly of Thorburn. Lorraine passed away peacefully, Friday, January 10, 2025, in the manor surrounded by her loved ones.
Born on October 1, 1935, in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late James Burton and Florence Mae (Boutilier) Johnson. Lorraine started her career with the schoolboard, looking after children, later working as a custodian at Thorburn White School and Frank H. MacDonald Elementary School, where she would tell you how much she loved the seeing the children each day. After marrying her husband, Graham Fraser in 1957, she moved to Thorburn and together they raised four children.
Mom loved nothing more than spending time at the cottage in Egerton, looking out over the cove. If she wasn’t in the cottage, she could be found down in the salt water, swimming. Mom always said, “the salt water was a cure for everything that ails you.” She enjoyed gliding on her speed skates at the Thorburn Rink on Tuesdays and Thursdays. At home in Thorburn, if she wasn’t baking and dancing around the kitchen, she was sitting on the couch knitting; whether it be socks or mittens, for everyone she knew.
She was a member of Dorcas Rebekah Lodge No. 42, IOOF, Thorburn for over 60 years and a member of Union Presbyterian Church in Thorburn.
Surviving are her children, James “Tommy” Fraser, Merigomish; Ruth Anne Ryan, MacPherson Mills; Vaughn Fraser, New Brunswick; Eric Fraser, Greenwood; grandchildren, Gloria, Calgary, Alta.; Timothy, Alberta; Teddi-Jo, British Columbia; Brandie (Chris), Porter’s Lake; Zachary, New Hazelton, B.C.; Callie, New Glasgow; great- grandchildren, Georgia Dawn and Declan; sister, Jeanne (Lawerence) Buckler, Dartmouth; sister-in-law, Adele Johnson, Stellarton; nieces, Kim, Donna and Elizabeth; nephews, Tim and Terry; several great-nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Lorraine was predeceased by her husband, George Graham Fraser; brother, Capt. James Thomas Johnson (Ret’d); nephew, Graham Harvey MacLean; son-in-law, John Ryan; brothers and sisters-in-law, Douglas and Mae Fraser, Bert and Kate Fraser, Ruth and Gene Nesman.
In honour of Lorraine’s wishes, her family will celebrate her life privately.
We wish to thank the staff of Glen Haven Manor for the wonderful care they provided mom. We wish to thank Dr. Gregor MacLean whom mom adored.
Lovingly submitted by Lorraine’s family.
