Obituary of Edgil Henry Hayter
Edgil Henry Hayter, 70, Linacy, passed away peacefully, January 16, 2025, in the Aberdeen hospital, Palliative care, New Glasgow, surrounded by his family.
Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Guy and Ann (Murray) Hayter. He was a Welder/Millwright by trade and employed at Maritime Steel and then at Trenton works for many years. After the plant shut down, he became a truck driver which he enjoyed. He loved spending time in the outdoors at his camp with his family, which was very important to Edgil. He was devoted to his lifelong partner of 48 years Sheila who he affectionately nicknamed “Lovey”, they were inseparable. He never missed the opportunity to spend time with his grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife, Sheila (Cooke); daughters, Amy (John) MacGrath, Trenton; Rebecca (Ryan) Ernst, Hardwood Hill; grandchildren, Myah, Damion, Hunter, Makayla, Matthew and Mason; sisters, Faith Chaisson, Faye (Bibs); brothers, Bob (Nancy), Wally (Lillian); sister-in-law, Rosemary Hayter; aunt, Cline Marshall; many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brother, Timothy “Tim” Hayter; brother-in-law, David Chaisson; aunts Elaine MacQuarrie, Ilene Maccallum, Marie Granlaud, Myrtle Matheson, Helen Macleod; uncles, Sheldon Hayter, Charles Hayter; nephew, Graeme Hayter
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, January 18, from 12 noon – 3 p.m. in the Linacy Fire Hall, Linacy.
