Obituary of Darrell James LeBlanc
It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Darrell James LeBlanc, age 63, on January 16, 2025. Darrell passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family, at the Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow.
Born in Montreal on March 26, 1961, he was the beloved son of Harry and Gloria LeBlanc, and the eldest of four siblings. Darrell spent his early years in Montreal before moving to Belle Cote, Cape Breton. It was in Cape Breton that he met the love of his life, a story he cherished and shared often with the nurses during his time in the hospital. He frequently spoke of how his wife, Priscilla, was his better half and how grateful he was to have her by his side.
At 19, Darrell moved to New Glasgow, where he began a fulfilling 32-year career at Michelin Tire in Granton as an electrician. His time at Michelin was marked by not only his dedication to his work but also by the strong friendships he built along the way. Darrell was also an active community member, generously contributing his time for 15 years to the Nova Scotia Female Minor Hockey Council. After retiring from Michelin, Darrell worked out west at the Kearl Oil Sands Project as a PLC technician before launching his own company, KSN Automation Inc, named after his children.
A proud Cape Bretoner through and through, Darrell always made time to return home. In his spare time, he could be found playing his guitar, writing a new song, building his next project, in the garage with his father, debating politics, or spending time with his granddaughter who he called ‘Grampy’s girl.’ Darrell’s bond with Ellie was truly special, and they shared a love that will live on in their hearts forever.
Darrell’s true loves in life were his family, music and his guitar and depending on the day, the order could vary. Above all, Darrell was a devoted husband, father, brother, and son, but the title he was most proud of was that of ‘Grampy.’
He is survived by his loving wife Priscilla (Aucoin); children Kevin LeBlanc, Steven LeBlanc, and Nicole LeBlanc; grandchildren, Eliana LeBlanc and Jackson LeBlanc; siblings, Shaun Leblanc, Steve (Linda) LeBlanc, Brenda (John) Burton; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his nephew, Dylan LeBlanc and his niece, Sherri LeBlanc. He cherished his family and friends and treasured every moment spent with them.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Palliative Care Unit at the Aberdeen Hospital, whose compassion, care, and kindness brought comfort to Darrell and his loved ones during his final days.
Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to The Center of Music on Summit.
A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, January 22nd, 2025 at 2pm in Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Stellarton with Father Peter MacDonald presiding with a reception to follow at the Sister Catherine Steel Centre.
A service will be held in Cape Breton at a later date.
Darrell will be remembered for his generosity and kindness. He always made time to talk to others and would give the shirt of his back to help anyone in need. His legacy of love, laughter, and music will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Lovingly submitted by family.
