Obituary of Charles Riggs
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Charles "Charlie" Riggs, 76, of New Glasgow, who passed away peacefully on January 29, 2025, at Aberdeen Hospital, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born in New Glasgow, Charlie was the son of the late Maurice and Esther (Fizzard) Riggs. From a young age, he dedicated his life to service, joining the Canadian Army, where he honorably served his country across the world, retiring with the esteemed rank of Sergeant.
Charlie was a devoted husband, father, stepfather, and grandfather, known for his kindness, strength, and unwavering love for his family. In Charlie's past time, he enjoyed playing bingo, working at the canteen, and playing cards with friends and family.
He will be deeply missed by his sons, Timothy Riggs, Finland, and Mark Riggs, Westville, as well as his two cherished grandsons in Finland. He is also survived by his loving sisters, Cassie MacDonald (Stellarton), Phyllis Cameron (Stellarton), and Joann Walsh (New Glasgow); his brother, Bruce Riggs (Edmonton); along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Besides his parents, Charlie was predeceased by his beloved wife, Isabelle; his sisters, Frances Cameron and Susie Sangster; and his brother, Roy Riggs.
The family will receive visitors on Saturday, February 1, 2025, from 12:00 to 12:50 p.m. at the P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home Chapel, New Glasgow. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m., officiated by Rev. Jeanne Hunter. A family reception will be held after the service at Charlie’s childhood home. Interment will take place in Abercrombie Cemetery in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Charlie’s memory may be made to a charity of choice.
Charlie’s legacy of service, love, and dedication to family will forever be remembered and cherished.
