Obituary of Merlin Edward Anderson

GREEN’S POINT – Merlin Edward “Merl” Anderson, age 78, Green’s Point, passed away, Wednesday, June 25, 2008 in the VG Site, QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born December 26, 1929 in Trenton, he was a son of the late David Archibald and Arvena Deltha (Feltmate) Anderson. Prior to retirement, he was a supervisor at Trenton Works. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church. Merl was very involved in coaching hockey and football. He was very active in the local Cadet program and enjoyed flying planes with the cadets. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with all his family. Merl had a great love of family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Vivian (Sartoris); daughters, Sandra (Ron) Mosher, Hillside; Lynn (Perry) Bezanson, Stellarton; sons, Maurice (Colleen), Pictou Landing Road; Sam (Valerie), King’s Head; grandchildren, Clint (Kim), Mark (Tannya), Neil, Vanessa (Glen), Brett, Cole and Nathan; great-grandchildren, Cade, Keegan and Lauren; sisters, Sylvia (Garnet) Wamback, New Glasgow; Ina (Lester) Coye, Fredericton; brother, George (Shirley), Surrey, B.C. ; half-brother, Lloyd, Little Harbour Road; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Helen Thomson, Lois Roberts; half-sisters, Emma Sprochi, Bertie Anderson; brothers, Wilbert, Olson; half-brothers, Ivan, Roy, Mervin and Ralph. Visitation will be 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Friday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home Chapel, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in First Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. Interment will be in MacLellan’s Mountain Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations may be made in his memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, Canadian Diabetes Association or The Kidney Foundation of Canada.
