Charleen was one of the most creative and energetic people one could ever meet. We shared so many experiences during our friendship and lives at work - laughter, tears, and my absolute amazement at her carefree zest for life and ability to see everyone in a positive light. I, like many others, absolutely loved Charleen - she taught me a lot. Charleen occupies a special spot in my heart and will be greatly missed. To Owen, Lee, Dana, and Char's entire family, my sincere condolences.

To you Will and all of your and Charleen’s family, I send my deepest condolences. There are no words big enough to express my sorrow at the loss of this amazing friend. She lived the fullest life I have ever known anyone to live and I was lucky to be a small part of all that. She added in a huge way to my life. Our hikes, talks, laughter, adventures and times together will be forever cherished as one of my greatest gifts. I remember so clearly sitting outside our tents late into the night watching the most brilliant starlit sky at Meat Cove after a couple days paddling. What an unbelievably incredible person. May all your wonderful memories sustain you all.

I am shocked and saddened to learn of Charleen's passing. I have so many wonderful memories of Charleen from our years together at Frank H. MacDonald School, where she was an exemplary teacher and dedicated member of an outstanding staff. She was always full of life, invariably positive and seeing the best in her students, fun to be around, someone who made you feel better just by her presence. My deepest sympathies to Lee and Dana on the loss of your mom. I am unable to attend funeral services but please know that I am with you in spirit, mourning of course, but also celebrating a beautiful life that touched so many people.

I will miss you a lot Charleen. You were my favourite teacher in Elementary School... you taught me to love reading and even with a stutter you let me read bits of A Series of Unfortunate Events out loud, just to practice. Many years after grade 6 I used to come over to your house with my Bestie and we'd hang out and do art or eat snacks or help decorate something. I haven't seen you in years and even tho I changed my entire name and gender, you still knew who I was and liked all of my photos online, you will be missed by many others.. love you girl

Dorothy and Family. I would like to offer our condolences to you at this time. I’m sure you must hurt having to say goodbye to such a wonderful Lady. I remember taking art lessons with Charlene, in Pictou. The night I recall, was a very stormy one, with a lot off ice. When we left the Braeside inn. It was just a sheet off ice. Needless to say, the only way to get down the hill, we put our paint boxes down, sat on them and slid down the bank. There was a lot of laughter that night. Just another memory of Charlene. “God takes our children, however, he leaves us with beautiful memories, that no one can take.”

Our paths crossed many many times over the years and I so enjoyed her positive outlook on life. Sincere condolences to all her loved ones.

Farewell dear friend and colleague. Charlene was a beloved member of the founding staff at Frank H. MacDonald Elementary School. She was part of a wonderful team of human beings that made up Area 6 and she was treasured by the many, many students who enjoyed and benefited from her as a teacher. FH had at its core 3C's: Caring, Cooperation and Courtesy. and to these thee I would three more for Charlene: Courageous, Curious and Compassionate. It is with profound sorrow that we mark her passing; and may her light live on in the lives of all who knew and loved her. Our deepest condolences to Owen, Lee and Dana, and all the family.

Love and hugs to all. Charlene was a beautiful person full of laughter, a passion for teaching, art and adventure. She was a friend and family to me. She made me happy when I was around her. I remember when we were together one time, when she was in Truro going to the Teacher's college, we did cartwheels going down Prince St. I never laughed so hard and had so much fun. When I (Larry) first met Charleen in 1982 as part of the new PDSB, it was immediately apparent that she was one of the most knowledgeable and creative elementary teachers in all of Nova Scotia. Serving on numerous board committees, she willingly gave of her time and expertise to enhance the teaching and learning of mathematics and technology in the classroom. Her bubbly personality and zest for life will surely be missed. So sorry for your loss, Owen and family. Wherever she may be now, I’m certain that she is having dessert first!

Charlene touched so many lives, leaving everyone better for having known her. When working with a group of Grade 12 students at East Pictou many years ago, they talked about Charlene, their Grade 6 teacher, with deep affection. Spending time with her meant a person would learn something new and enjoy many laughs along the way. An image that comes to mind and makes me smile...is seeing her cartwheel down the hall of the hotel we stayed in during a workshop in Halifax...just because she could! Deepest condolences to Owen and her family.
