Obituary of Charleen Grace Ferguson

TRENTON - Charleen Grace Ferguson, 69, Trenton, passed away peacefully, Saturday, November 20, 2021, at home, surrounded by the love of her family.

 

Born in Toronto, Ont., she was a daughter of Dorothy Eleanor (Howard) Simpson, Linacy and the late Frederick Day Simpson. Charleen taught grade six at the former Frank H. MacDonald Elementary School, Sutherland’s River for many years. Her former students have often stated, “what a difference she made in my life”. Charleen was awarded the Prime Minister’s Award for Teaching Excellence. She was a lifelong learner and thoroughly enjoyed imparting knowledge to her students to foster their growth. Charleen was an accomplished artist who passionately explored the world, creating art that reflected her experiences, permitting her to share that joy with others. She was a member of Women Alike Abreast A River Dragon Boat Team.

 

Charleen and her husband, Owen, saw the world as a book and each chapter, a new journey. They travelled extensively, each adventure bringing a deeper appreciation for the beauty they encountered. They enjoyed the outdoors, spending many enjoyable hours, kayaking, canoeing, biking, hiking, camping, and taking photos.

 

Charleen loved her family dearly and treasured time spent with them, creating memories around special meals, warm cups of coffee and many a good story. She was a creative, intelligent lady who generously gave of her gifts, talents, and time.

 

Surviving are her husband and soulmate, Owen Ferguson; daughters, Lee O’Pray (Brad Richard), MacLellan’s Brook; Dana O’Pray, Toronto; Nicole (Justin) Simms, Mount Pearl, N.L.; Julia (Josh) Lau, Dartmouth; son, William (Kaitlyn) Ferguson; granddaughters, Sharee and Emmaline; sisters, Sandra (Mike) Malenfant, Durham; Cheryl Simpson Stewart, Linacy; brother, Dave (Eva) Simpson, Seafoam; several nieces and nephews.

 

In honour of Charleen’s wishes, a private celebration of life will be held. Interment will be in French River Cemetery.
