Obituary of Raymond Lawrence Cahoon

STELLARTON – Raymond Lawrence Cahoon, 56, Stellarton formerly of Vancouver, B.C., passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2016 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.

 

Born in New Glasgow he was a son of Dorothy M. (Collis) Cahoon, Stellarton and the late Jewel Lawrence Cahoon. Lawrence was an avid reader and appreciated fine literature and wine. A systems analyst, he taught mathematics for a number of years at the University of British Columbia. Over the past number of years, Lawrence spent his summers in Pictou County, enjoying all the North Shore offered, including sandy beaches and lobster. He was a tolerant and compassionate person who looked for the best in others.

 

Surviving besides his mother, Dorothy, are sister, Amanda (John) McKay and son, Sam, Ottawa; brothers, Bruce (Yolanda) Cahoon, Port Coquitlam, B.C.; Sidney (Tanya) Cahoon, Waterside, and their children, Jade (Nich), Chris, Kiersten and Connor; aunts, Jean Battist, Waterside; Elsa Robertson, New Glasgow; Audrey Christie, St. Catharines, Ont.; uncles, Alvin Battist, Scotch Hill; Bernie (Heather) McKenna, Halifax; many cousins.

 

Besides his father, Jewel, he was predeceased by his partner, Michael Enns; maternal grandparents, Sid and Phyllis Collis; paternal grandparents, Mary and Newton Cahoon; aunts, Alene “Peepsie” Collis, Eileen Kyle and Doris Wyden; uncles, Art Cahoon, Raymond Battist and Bob McKenna.

 

In honour of Lawrence’s wishes, a private ceremony will be held in the summer.

 

The Cahoon family wish to thank Dr. Gerry Farrell, Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit staff and the Pictou County Victorian Order of Nurses for the exceptional care Lawrence received.
