Obituary of Mary Margaret Mason
MACPHERSON’S MILLS – Mary Margaret Mason, 71, MacPherson’s Mills, passed away Sunday, October 10, 2021, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by love.
Born in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late Harold and Jean Finlay (Barr) Mason. Mary was a graduate of St. F.X. University, Antigonish (B.Sc. 73”) where she enjoyed university life, socializing, and playing goal on the women’s field hockey team. Mary had been employed with Michelin Tire, Granton for over 30 years. She was a voracious reader, renowned for her delicious cheesecake, and loved the challenge of a new project. For the past twenty years Mary was involved in a drumming circle and the exploration of shamanic practices. Like every true gardener, it was hard for Mary to resist a new plant discovery and thus her gardens grew in diversity and beauty. While all changing seasons were celebrated with decorations both inside and out, Christmas was Mary’s best loved event. She was very kind to animals, and her “open-door” policy welcomed a succession of many much-loved cats and Meggie the dog. Mary dearly loved her fur babies, George and Sarah. Mary possessed a passion for music, especially live events. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends, to whom she was devoted.
Surviving are her partner, Betty Lou; sisters, Noreen Payzant, Trenton; Sharon Murray, Pouce Coupe, B.C.; Velvet Mason, Barney’s River; Kiltie (Jamie) Murphy, Trenton; brother, Billy (Annette) Mason, New Glasgow; Cliff (Kathy) Mason, Mark Road; brother in law, Reggie (Theresa) Lawrence, Peachland B.C.; sister-in-law, Tina (Steve) Laurette, Cambridge, Ont.; many nieces, nephew, cousins and friends.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Bonnie Mason; brother-in-law, Albie Payzant.
A Celebration of Life will be held 3 p.m. Thursday, October 14 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home Chapel, New Glasgow.
Mary’s family wish to thank the EHS paramedics and RCMP officer who attended her home. The Aberdeen Hospital, Emergency Unit and Palliative Care Unit and the Halifax Infirmary, QEII nurses and doctors who were fabulous! Going “above and beyond” to help in anyway possible.
