I just learned of Dorothy’s passing and am heartbroken. We met when I moved to New Glasgow in 1998 for a job a CKEC. It had been arranged that I would stay at Wynward Inn until I found an apartment. However, an unexpected surgery for appendicitis forced me to stay longer. What a blessing in disguise! She was so welcoming to me, immersing me in her family and helping me to become acquainted with the area. Even once I had found a permanent place to live, we stayed in touch with weekly visits, and she continued helping me to ‘settle in’. It wasn’t long before I dubbed her my ‘East Coast Mom’, a title that she willingly accepted. From regular get togethers on a Saturday night at the inn with another one of her guests who was new to the area to a Christmas dinner invitation, we remained very close until I moved to another part of the Maritimes for another radio job a few years later. Sadly, life did it’s thing and we drifted apart. A move to Ontario followed by marriage and kids happened, and we lost touch about a decade or so ago. I did attempt to connect with her a number of times, but either didn’t know her whereabouts following the sale of the inn or never seemed to have to right phone number. I am so saddened that we never got to connect again. Deepest condolences to her family (hopefully, some of you remember me). She will always have a place in my heart, and will always be my East Coast Mom. Jamie

All of my best memories as a child was having you as my mommy. The unconditional love, the coffee ice cream, our little adventures, how you used to put on Zamfir to help me fall asleep at night. I now carry on that tradition with my kids. It works like a charm . My heart is broken and the pain is unbearable. Now your my guardian angel. I know you will be there to watch over me and my family and to keep us safe. XOXO

My dear sister, how I will remember our many trips together. I have counted thirty and, possibly, I may have missed some. I won't be stopping by at 46 Campbell's Lane for a visit but you are certainly being remembered in my prayers especially at Mass yesterday. I will be there this afternoon to share some hugs with all of your children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Rest in peace, Dorothy.

We used to have such great summers together in Fernwood. Auntie Dorothy was always so gentle and kind. She was the first person I remember who seemed to enjoy shopping! Such a revelation to my young self! (It didn't rub off). She was so nice to me in Truro that fall...and that birthday cake she made me I still remember! Thoughts, prayers and all my love to you all. xoxo Margy

We want to pass along our sincere sympathy in your loss of Dorothy. She had a long life and so many stories and adventures along the way. She was definitely a world traveler and enjoyed travelling for so many years. We were sitting around last night reminiscing and chatting about lots of our memories. We are so sorry we will not be able to attend the remembrance on Monday as we will be away, but want you all to know you will be our thoughts.
