Obituary of Dorothy Gertrude Leahy

NEW GLASGOW – Dorothy Gertrude Leahy, 89, New Glasgow, passed away Wednesday, January 30, 2019 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by her family. Born in Trenton, she was a daughter of the late James Henry and Gertrude Mary (O’Donnell) Leahy. Moving to Ontario in 1955, she had been employed with the Bank of Nova Scotia in Ottawa and Sears, Toronto. Returning to Nova Scotia in 1973, she later opened Wynward Inn, New Glasgow, which she operated until the opening of Hebels. She traveled the world many times, usually accompanied by her sisters and especially enjoyed her visits to Barbados and France. Dorothy was a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, New Glasgow and attended Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Church, Stellarton. She will be dearly missed by those she loved. Surviving are daughter, Maureen (Paul) Crews, Lower Sackville; Roslyn (Kevin) Sambles, Fredericton; sons, James (Susan) Walsh, St. Paul’s; Michael (Golda) Walsh, Hatchet Lake; Peter Walsh, New Glasgow; ; son-in-law, Jean Claude Loiseau, Clermont-Ferrand, France; sisters, Bernadette Hardwick, Charlottetown, P.E.I.; Pat Stewart, Antigonish; Paul (Sylvia) Leahy, Edmonton; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by daughter, Kathy Loiseau; granddaughter, Jamie Lynn Walsh; sisters, Helen MacDonald, Cecelia Duprey, Margaret McCarthy, Marie LeClair and Terry Ferguson; brothers, Art and Robert “Bob” Leahy. The family will receive visitors 2-4 p.m. Monday, February 4th in Dorothy's home, 46 Campbell's Lane, New Glasgow.
