Obituary of Charles William Weeks

THORBURN – Charles William “Bill” Weeks, 85, Thorburn, formerly of Stellarton, passed away Friday, June 5, 2020 at home, surrounded by the love of his family. Born in Stellarton, he was a son of the late William Henry and Florence Isabel (MacKay) Weeks. In 1953 Bill joined the Royal Canadian Army, serving with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry and from 1958-1962 with The Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment). Bill had worked as a coalminer for many years and prior to retirement was employed with the Pictou County District School Board. He enjoyed travelling, bowling, spending time with family and the fellowship of the Black Watch Association. Bill was an avid card player, especially, poker and longstanding Hank Snow fan. He was a gentle man, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle, who enjoyed life to the fullest. Surviving are his wife, Deanna (Finley); daughters, Linda Weeks, New Glasgow; Patricia Weeks, New Glasgow; Cathy (Robert) Johnson, Foxbrook; son, Bill Weeks, New Glasgow; step-daughter, Cindy (Jeff) Dixon, Calgary, Alta.; grandsons, Matthew, Nicholas (Meghan) and Tyler; great-grandchildren, Lucas, Matteo, Lily, Axton and Emberlee; step-grandchildren, Shawn (Rebecca), Brian (Amanda) and Amanda (Dallas); many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Edna (Zugay); grandson, Patrick “P.J.” Weeks; sisters, Helen Cummings and Eileen Robinson; brother, Fred Weeks; son-in-law, Mike Dunn; brother-in-law, Robert Cummings. Bill’s life will be celebrated privately. Bill’s family wish to thank the Pictou County Victorian Order of Nurses, Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit staff, Dr. Elisha Zibiri, Rachel MacDonald, RN and Debbie Williams, RN.
