Obituary of Harry Lawrence Brennan

TRENTON - Harry Lawrence Brennan, well known Pictou County naturalist and photographer, died on November 6, 2018, at the Valley View Villa nursing home in Riverton. Harry lived for many years on Elgin Road, Hopewell, moved to Trenton in 2013 then to the Villa in March of this year. Harry was the eldest son of Leslie and Ivy (Wright) Brennan. He was born on January 13, 1929, in the family home on the River Road. At a young age Harry showed a great interest in the outside world, especially birdlife. This interest became a passion in his adult life. Harry will be remembered for his many field trips and slide presentations, when, with help from his wife, Jean, Harry shared his vast knowledge about birds and other wildlife. A self-taught photographer, Harry was proud to have some of his photos published. Mostly, though, he loved to gift people with nature pictures as well as “lump” owls and his other folk artwork. Harry worked for many years at the Hawker Siddeley plant in Trenton. He loved to share jokes with the workers and would tell great stories about his workday as we gathered around the supper table at night. Harry is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jean (Rorison); their seven children: Anthony, Calgary; Kevin, Kamloops; Shannon (Gayle), Lac du Bonnet, MA; Danny, Kamloops; Timmy (Carolyn), Pictou Landing; Susan (Stewart), Hardwood Hill; Calvin (Charlene), Grayling, Michigan; sister-in-law, Loise Brennan, Dartmouth; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Harry was predeceased by his sister, Doris Garvie; brothers, Everett and Elliott; daughter-in-law, Mim. Funeral service will be held, Saturday, November 10th, 2018, at 11 a.m. in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home New Glasgow. Interment will be in MacLean’s Cemetery, Elgin Road, Hopewell. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the Piano Fund, Valley View Villa, or a charity of your choice. Stop and observe this beautiful natural world that Harry loved so much and remember him on your next nature walk. And share a joke with someone – he would have liked that. Lovingly submitted by his family. To plant Memorial Trees in memory of Harry Lawrence Brennan, please click here to visit our Sympathy Store.
