Obituary of William Fulton MacKay

NEW GLASGOW – William Fulton MacKay, 93, New Glasgow, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, May 5, 2020 at home, with his daughters by his side. Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Alexander and Ida (Ross) MacKay. Fulton was a faithful member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, New Glasgow. He had been employed with the former Maritime Steel and Foundries Limited for 45 years. In his younger years, Fulton played baseball, broomball, hockey and was an avid bowler. He was an avid Toronto Blue Jays and Toronto Maple Leafs fan. Fulton enjoyed fishing, woodworking and working around the yard. He and his late wife, Colleen, provided care to many foster children over the years. When Colleen required nursing care, Fulton spent every day with her at Valley View Villa. Faith and family were most important. Although Fulton’s family will miss him terribly, they are comforted in knowing that their dad has been reunited with his love in the celestial kingdom. “Life has changed; not ended!” Surviving are children, Jim (Dianne) MacKay, Oxford; Shirley (Charlie) Irving, Jackson’s Cove, N.L.; William “Billy” MacKay, Victoria, B.C.; Flo (Bill) MacKeigan, Pictou; daughter-in-law, Roberta MacKay, Riverton; grandchildren, Sabrina, Jamie, Theresa, Cecil, Kerri-Lee, David, Holly, Michael and Meghan; many great-grandchildren; sister, Florence Langille, Westville; brother, Tom (Wendy) MacKay, Kingston, Ont.; sister-in-law, Shirley (Wayne) Franklin, Dryden, Ont.; brother-in-law, Chet Canning, Stellarton; many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Colleen (MacDonald); sisters, Betty Jardine and Doreen Canning; brothers, Everett in infancy and Robert “Mac” MacKay; foster son, Eddy Westaway. A private family service will take place at a later date with interment in Holy Cross Cemetery, New Glasgow. If desired, donations may be made in memory of Fulton to St. John the Baptist Parish.
