The sun rose for Millie on August 28, 1955 in New Glasgow, a daughter of the late Ernest Russell Sr. and Harriet Margaret (Izzard) Johnson. Millie was a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, New Glasgow. She was employed with the Nova Scotia Department of Community Services, New Glasgow, as a receptionist for many years, retiring in 2017. Following, she moved to Dartmouth to be with her family. Seeking a new adventure, Millie secured part-time employment with Clarmar Care, Dartmouth, an assisted living facility where she enjoyed helping others. Millie was proud to be a charter member of the New Glasgow Black Gala Homecoming Committee. She looked forward to connecting with family and friends at each gathering. Millie was an enthusiastic, smooth dancer who would “kick up her heels” at every opportunity. She enjoyed “girls’ night out” and deeply appreciated her many friends. Millie will be remembered for shopping, old school music, “pork chops, potatoes and gravy”, her smile, infectious laugh and genuine beauty. She was very proud of her daughters and the wonderful ladies they have become. She was an amazing grandmother and was lovingly referred to as “Bill” by her great-grandchildren, thanks to Layla.
