It was with great sadness and a sense of shock that I learned of Don’s passing. He was a virtuous soul, a high school friend and as his obituary stated, he lived life his way. I met Don at East Pictou many years ago where we both attended high school in the 1960’s. Even back then, he was a free spirit and went his own way with determined energy and a resolved sense of confidence. I was fortunate enough to reconnect with Don through his sister and brother-in-law in 2007 but as I was always working away from the County, it was hard to keep up with him on a regular basis. However, he was always on my mind. I know of Don’s love of heavy equipment, much like my own; so I’m planning to dedicate a second book I’m writing to him. I’m only sorry I didn’t finish it while he was still here to enjoy it. I will surely miss him. May God watch over his soul and may he rest in peace. My sincere condolences to his sister Charlene, brother-in-law Wayne, his mom and others whom he was close to.
