Obituary of Frank Garfield MacDonald
LINACY – Frank Garfield MacDonald, 70, Linacy, passed away suddenly, Thursday, February 3, 2011 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by family.
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late John Archie and Mary Kathleen (Noonan) MacDonald. He was employed for over 30 years with Metro-Midtown Taxi, New Glasgow and had been co-owner of the former MacDonald Bros. Ambulance. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, New Glasgow. Frank was a well known “fixture” in many hockey rinks, a “hockey grandfather” to many young players. He was very proud of his grandsons promising hockey careers and supported them tirelessly. Frank loved his family more than anything.
Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Dorothy “Dot” (Rehill); daughter, Kim (Ronnie) MacLennan, New Glasgow; son, Frank (Lesley), Little Harbour; grandsons, Kyle, Evan, Ryan, Blake, Wyatt and Logan; sister, Charleen (Kenny) MacKay, Riverton; brothers, Dougald (Barb), Gerard (Janet), Linacy; sister-in-law, Joan MacDonald, Linacy; brother-in-law, Wayne Lumsden, Ottawa; many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sister, Phyllis Lumsden; brother, Allister “Ale” and a brother in infancy.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 6th in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Feb.7th in St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church with Father Donald Boudreau and Father Gary MacPherson presiding. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery at a later date.
Family flowers only. Donations may be made in his memory to the Heart andStroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
