I never got the chance to meet you Donald, even though we are 4th cousins, and I live on the other side of the country to you. It is only through researching my family I have found you and read about your passing. My condolences to the family. May your name forever be a blessing. It would have been lovely to get to know you, cousin. Sincerely, Carole and Family

I'm not sure if anybody actually reads these messages but I'm going to make one final post. Don showed up in Dryden to do a job in 2002. We hit it off right away. Don could walk into a room full of strangers and in 20 minutes they'd all be his friends. He had an outgoing personality that just drew people to him. His loud laugh and his big smile just made you know there was nothing phoney about him. He was what you saw...nothing more. Many times we flew up north to get a day away from the job and do some fishing. We'd always come home with a bag of walleyes and I'd clean them up for a great dinner with my wife Jane. Don always flew the Cessna 180 as in my job I flew every day and enjoyed being chauffeured. When we lifted off a lake, any lake, 50 or 65 miles north of Dryden, we soon wouldn't need any form of navigational equipment because, if we stayed low, we could see Dons tower on the horizon. A majestic structure that was clearly visible and constructed by this great guy. I will think of my good friend every time I see it. Rest well Don. You will never be forgotten in Dryden and in our home.

When Don joined the MacDonald family (my dad, Bing Gillmore, and Rose were first cousins) it was like he had always been one of us. My Mom says that on his stops to Winnipeg and Ontario he would often drop in on the Gillmores and we were always guaranteed an entertaining and educational evening with lots of stories of his adventures. Our love and sympathy to Rose and all of Don's family, Jean and the Gillmore Family

Dear Family: Deepest condolences across the miles on the loss of Donnie, who was by far the best neighbour we ever had. Although he was away much of the time, when we saw him he always had a kind word & was very generous to us, to the point where he (forced) took us on a plane ride to Havre Boucher, around Antigonish & back to Trenton! We will never forget that day! Donnie, Charlie & Sarah, u we’re all so lucky to have so many adventures with him all over the world. We loved seeing the old pictures. We hope that your good memories & the love of family & friends will help you all through this difficult time. Wish we could be there! God Bless all! Joe & Monica White

We were very saddened to hear of Donnie's passing. It was a pleasure getting to know you both and to sit with him again in the fall and to hear him tell of his stories of days gone by. What a full and adventurous life he lived. We will treasure that time and hold it closer now. We all remember fondly on Dad (Alan's) birthdays when the phone would ring and he and Donnie would have a great long catch-up. I can still see dad sitting at the kitchen table, in his favourite seat, talking to his best friend. How sweet it was. Perhaps we can find some solace in imagining the reunion they are having now. Thoughts are with you Rose and all of Donnie's relatives and close friends.

Our thoughts are with you today Rose. Don was a great guy and a good friend. I've never seen him without a smile. I can't count the number of times we flew out fishing for a catch of walleyes or trout. He loved to fly, he loved to fish and he loved those walleyes when I'd fry them up. We were very fortunate to know him all these years and welcome him as a guest in our home. Ray

Dear Rose and Family, How unexpected to see Donnie's picture in the obits as we sipped our morning coffee here in the valley. Donnie was a lively character,so full of life and interested in everyone he met. As the sun shines today warming the soil and encouraging the buds to open we think of Donnie with fondness. He is now on his greatest adventure yet, the freedom to fly beyond the clouds and reach heaven. To each family member we offer our deepest condolences.

What a great friend Don was to my Dad, Mike Scully. They knew each other for over 50 years. Don was great for the rest of my family too. I only had to say his name to my Dad or Mom or any of my sibs and smiles would follow instantaneously. I posted a tribute to him on Facebook, many of you would have seen. Terrible loss. Terrific life and memories!
