Obituary of Lois Ann Marie Kennedy

Lois Ann Marie Kennedy, 73, Linacy - Our fiercely independent Mum passed peacefully from this life on August 2, 2020 at home surrounded by her family. It was her courage that allowed her to embrace every challenge in life. She believed courage, a positive attitude and laughter is what allows you to step forward through any adversity. Lois Ann Marie Kennedy was born in New Glasgow on Oct 15,1946 to the late James William and Alice Newcombe (Hamblen) MacLellan. Mum spent her childhood in Linacy before moving to Toronto, however the love of family and the beauty of Nova Scotia drew her back. Mum was well known for her selfless acts of kindness throughout her life. She left a lasting impact on all those she met. She was a leader in the minor sports community, spending countless hours supporting her children and others in baseball and basketball. Mum was a founding member of the Green and White booster club at New Glasgow High School. She built many relationships throughout her career as an Educational Assistant at Temperance Street, New Glasgow High, Pictou Elementary and GR Saunders Elementary Schools. Mum fondly remembered her 19 years spent with Reil Cutler and the special bond that was forged. She was a true friend to countless people and a caretaker to many. Mum was an avid card player and storyteller who possessed a quick wit and genuine sense of humour. Mum loved to make connections! If you asked anyone, they will tell you she was well known for her ability to always know someone, no matter where she was. She loved a good road trip and made many great memories traveling with friends. She will be fondly remembered as “Mum”, “Nannie”, “Nan”, “Lo” and “Mrs. Kennedy”. Surviving are her children, Denise (Trent) MacLean, Pictou; Dannie Kennedy (Melissa), Lyons Brook; Walter Kennedy, Fort McMurray, Alta.; grandchildren, Joshua, Madison, Joel, Scotlynd and Kason; sisters, Adele Treen, Linacy; Jean Johnson, Thorburn; brother, Billy (Marlene) MacLellan, Sutherland’s River; sister-in-law, Evie MacLellan, New Glasgow; numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, Walter, Cameron, Eon and Donald; sister-in-law, Joan MacLellan and companion, Clifford Allen. In keeping with Mum’s wishes a private celebration of life will be held. If desired, donations may be made in memory of Lois to the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society. (Please click to donate online.) We extend a heartfelt thanks to Mum’s sister Adele, Dr. Anne Kwasnik, Dr. Emmanuel Rivera, Rachel MacDonald, R.N., Madison Whyte, R.N., the Victorian Order of Nurses and Mum’s circles of amazing friends who made her final wishes possible. Mum you were a selfless, genuine and loving mother who we dearly love – Denise, Dannie and Walter.
