Denise and family; apologies as my message is a little late. I was very saddened to hear the news of David’s passing. My condolences to all of you and your extended family during this time. Although David and I had not seen year other in years - we kept in touch via random texts over the last few years with our last few exchanges this past June. Great, kind guy - I only wish our paths could have crossed a few times our these past few years. When our Mom was living in a retirement home - I recall my Mom mentioning that David had dropped in for a visit one afternoon. A small but very nice gesture. I recall he left me a very nice voicemail after our Mom passed... but how kind David was - it not news to anyone. I can still hear Dave's infectious laugh. Although my introduction to Dave was thru my older brother (Roger) I was able to attend a road trips with Dave during my early 20's, skiing in Maine and a Boston, New York trip. A few memories I'll share. Many years ago Dave had organized a fun Saturday Golf tournament in New Glasgow. I would guess there was there was likely 36 of us - all of us hacks. At the golf course Dave arrives beaming with that mornings edition of the Chronicle Herald. David: Boys - we made the papers! Unknown to us David had called the Herald earlier in the week and somehow had convinced the sports writer to publish our names and tee times for the 3rd Annual New Glasgow Open ! When I 18, one night I ran into David about 11:30PM outside the Lions Head tavern. Meaning: I was (underage and already drunk) David: Hey Richard, I'm going in, come with me. Me: But I'm underage.. David: Oh - it will fine, Rogers in there – he will be happy to see you So in we go.. and Dave puts two drafts in front me. Roger to me: What are you doing here? You shouldn't be in here. David: He's my guest Roger.. don't hassle my guest. Roger: David ever the gentleman introduces me to someone at the table. David: Hey this is Rogers brother! I proceed to shake the hand of someone... and I knock over about 8 draft on the table.! Roger looking at David: Told you he shouldn't be in here! David: This tough one, David was one of the good ones. Take care. "Don’t cry because its over – smile because it happened" – Dr. Zuess

Jenny, Jonas and I were shocked and deeply saddened with the news of David's passing. He was such a great man in so many ways and the world needs more like him. For sure, his death makes the world a lesser place and most certainly his friends, neighbors, former students and fellow teachers will have cherished memories of him. He was always upbeat and positive-minded. As neighbors and a fellow teacher at East Pictou, we find it very difficult to believe he will not be puttering around the yard as we drive by on Gillis Lane. Our most sincere condolences to Denise and all of the family. Rip, David. We will miss you.

My short time shared with David at EPRH had a lasting effect on me as I learned many lessons from Dave. He was an exceptional teacher, colleague and friend. I cannot recall even one occasion when you could catch him without a smile or a pleasant greeting. His smile way so infectious, his warmth affected everyone he came in contact with, his counsel was sought by both students and colleagues alike. Rest In Peace, David.
