Sis. Frances and Family, I extend my deepest condolences. You all know how much I loved your husband and father. What a delight he was to have in the congregation! And to still be able to visit as friends after my relocation was such a blessing. Please know you are in my prayers and I look forward to the time when we may together share our joyful memories of Bro. Francis over a cup of tea and your delicious date squares. “The Lord is near to the broken-hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” - Psalm 34:18

Dear Frances, Adriane, Jocelyn and family, I am deeply saddened by the passing of my dear cousin, your beloved Francis whom I have known my entire life. As teenagers our lives overlapped at the New Glasgow High School. Then and always he was consistently the most pleasant, jovial and affirming people I have ever known. Thus, It seemed altogether fitting to me that he would devote his life to various types of meaningful community service while giving priority to his family, church, municipal government, law enforcement, civic mindedness, and since 1990 his delight in founding the New Glasgow Black Gala Celebration every five years. Clearly, he has provided you, your extended family and the whole community with an enduring legacy that will be remembered and celebrated for many generations. Thus, I join with you and the whole town of my birth in thanking God for the privilege of having known and admired such a praiseworthy person as your beloved Francis Dorrington. Please know that my wife Adrienne joins me in this expression of sympathy.

I met Francis in the early 70’s when I joined the Jaycees in New Glasgow. He was a leader back then and through the following years as attested to by his many accomplishments. Moving back to Nova Scotia and Antigonish in 1994, Francis would be in the news from time-to-time but it was not until 2018 that I reached out to invite him to have lunch. Although both of us had seen many years pass, we shared memories of time in New Glasgow and, of course, the accomplishments of our children. Francis dedicated his life to the betterment of his local community, the town of New Glasgow and indeed, the whole province. Count me among the many that were privileged to know him and who will miss him. My sincere condolences to everyone in the Francis’ family, of which there are many.
